Our recent case study – concrete floor preparation

We have just completed a concrete floor preparation project which was in a hospital basement. We were asked to remove the contaminants which included paint and resin from the floor of what was once a staff room in the hospital.

Concrete floor preparation – halfway through

By using the latest diamond grinding technology, we were able to remove the stubborn top surface of the concrete, leaving the substrate fully prepared for its new coating.

Concrete floor after diamond grinding – a perfect substrate

Concrete floor preparation is a specialist contractor project. Requiring heavy equipment, knowledge of the work and the right environment, the surface is not only prepared but all dust and particles must be removed from the site.

Grit Blasting UK offers a nationwide concrete floor preparation service. We are able to remove all surface contaminants including resins, vinyl tiles, glues, paint and other substances.

In addition to our preparation work, we work in partnership with Promain UK to supply, prepare and coat concrete surfaces with new applications.

Concrete floor shot blasting and preparation

See the difference….

Floor preparation is an efficient and environmentally acceptable dust free method of preparing concrete surfaces. Grit Blasting UK uses it expertise and the latest in diamond floor grinding technology to provide a clean, professional finish ready for the application of surface treatments such as paint. Some still refer to this as shot blasting, but in reality it is diamond grinding!

Grit Blasting is undertaking more and more floor preparation projects for contractors. The demand for “out of town” warehouses, shopping centres, factories and other storage space is giving rise to the need for preparation of much bigger floor spaces, and required in a shorter time frame because of the tight deadlines on the overall building and construction jobs where cost control is critical.

Investing in the latest technology is key to reducing the timescales on bigger jobs such as floor preparation. We maintain a fleet of diamond floor grinders applicable for any size of project, and the latest staff training ensures an efficient and highly skilled team familiar with the latest techniques. We have recently purchased a new lorry to help transport all of our equipment across UK sites.

An understanding of the science behind the materials, the paint applications as well and the safety needs of the work and the after-care of the materials is also a key requisite of our work.

We undertake any size of floor preparation work and are experts in our field with over 20 years’ experience.

Larger construction and engineering companies now rely on us UK as a preferred sub-contractor because of our reliability and experience. This is particularly the case in floor preparation.

July 2017 – Investment in new technology for Gritblasting UK’s floor preparation work.

One of the UK’s leading Grit blasting companies has invested in the latest technology from the United States.

Grit blasting UK, owned by Kierien Barnes from Trowbridge in Wiltshire continues to grow its surface preparation and paint spraying business. Earlier this year the company moved to larger premises in Devizes with outdoor blasting facilities. Now, they have purchased the latest in mobile diamond grinding technology for use in indoor blasting.

Purchased from SPE International in Washington DC USA, the Predator 2400 is the “new boy” in Grit blasting UK’s armoury of diamond floor grinders and polishers. Designed to tackle any size of job imaginable, this tool makes light work of the projects that Kierien’s company are now handling. The Predator 2400 excels at removing stubborn coatings including sealers and adhesives as well as polishing concrete.

Kierien explains “We are seeing more and more floor preparation projects in our contracted work, and with “out of town” warehouses and factory space becoming more popular, Gritblasting UK is taking on contacts for clients with much larger floor areas in need of preparation for example.”

It is not just the technology that is important. Grit blasting have been experts in their field for over 20 years, starting initially in Wiltshire and now undertaking major work across the United Kingdom. Investing in technology is just one of the many requirements of the modern-day grit blaster, along with a deep understanding of the science behind the materials and the paint applications as well and the safety needs of the work and the after-care of the materials.

Larger construction and engineering companies now rely on Grit blasting UK as a preferred sub-contractor because of their reliability and experience. From massive steel bridges to wind turbines to 5000 square feet warehouses, Grit blasting UK boasts an impressive client list.

May 2017 – Eton College Flooring Preparation Project.

The work of a sub-contractor is a varied and interesting one. In May 2017, Gritblasting Uk undertook a contract for Eton College. Steeped in history and dating from 1440, this Windsor based institution had the floor of one of its larger rooms renovated by our team.

Using the latest new electric diamond floor grinder we removed the existing coatings from 330 square metres of concrete flooring, ensuring a perfectly prepared surface for new coatings to be applied.

Working in an architecturally historic building is not without its challenges but with careful preparation, experience and the right equipment we were able to provide our contractors with the flooring outcome they wanted.

Using our knowledge and experience along with our range of diamond floor grinders, GritblastingUK can grind concrete flooring. This can provide the perfect preparation prior to the application of epoxy coatings and flooring paints. By removing rubber deposits, adhesives, bitumen coatings and impacted dirt from factory and warehouse floors, we leave a prepared surface ready for recoating.
