In March we announced the installation of our Powder Coating facility at our Andover premises. Here’s a few facts on the process, which we are using everyday in providing our contract clients with high quality powder coating finishes.
What is powder coating?
Powder coating is used for metals, aluminium, household white goods, and a whole quantity of agricultural, arboricultural and farming equipement – to name just a few things.
The powder coating is firstly applied as a dry powder, which means it doesn’t need a solvent to bind it. The powder is then cured under heat which forms a skin. Normally the powder is a thermoplastic or thermoset polymer. The finish that is produced is rock hard – tougher than a conventional paint coating.
Because the powder coating does not have a liquid form, it can produce thicker coatings without running or dripping, and the end result is a smooth and flawless finish. Several powder colours can even be applied before curing.
Contain no solvents, and release very little volatile organic compounds
Can produce thicker coatings
Curing time is significantly faster than liquid application
